Class Descriptions

Mommy & Me: Mothers assist their child in exploring their world through music and dance/tumbling. Great for fitness, flexibility, strength and for building social skills.

Baby Ballet: A thirty minute introductory dance class containing ballet, tap and creative movement. Young dancers will learn the basic steps while learning how to follow direction and imitate movement in a positive environment. Engaging music is used to get these little guys inspired to dance. The use of props such as teddy bears, hula hoops, scarves and maracas, enables the young dancers to use their imagination, creativity and, most of all, have fun!

Ballet: JDA teaches classical, traditional technique from the French ballet and is based on the turn out, the five positions of the feet, pointe work and technique of beats, turns, elevation, and extension.

Ballet/Tap/Jazz: An age specific one-hour class containing ballet, tap and jazz/creative movement. The purpose of the class is to introduce young dancers to the three styles of dance and inspire movement and creativity within a positive environment.  Twenty minutes each of ballet, tap, and jazz, give the children a fantastic base and exposure to different types of dance. We have found that this “combination” technique helps to keep the kids excited, interested, and focused for the entire 60 minute period.  Dancers will learn basic steps and terminology in all three styles.  The use of fun, age appropriate music engages the young dancers’ minds and bodies. The use of props such as maracas for the “freeze dance” makes the end of class the most fun!

Beginner Ballet & Beginner/Intermediate Ballet: A beginning level of true classical ballet. This level is for students between the ages 8 and 10 that have never taken or have only taken combination classes. The class will cover terminology, dance history, basic floor patterning, body strength building and choreography. Due to the amount of material and the need to develop muscle memory a student may remain 2 to 3 years in this level. This class can be taken 1x a week.

Intermediate Ballet: Requires a pre-requisite of 3 continual years of ballet or an equivalent from another studio. Evaluation will be required. This level is for ages 10 and up that have an understanding of barre and center work. Students need to know all barre exercises, movements and center terminology. Students will be required to know and understand verbal terms. Students will learn multiple turns, more difficult jumps, and intricate steps. This level is for students starting or preparing pointe. This class can be taken 1x a week.

Advanced Ballet: Requires a pre-requisite of 5 continual years of ballet or an audition. This level is for ages 11 and up. The student needs to know the basics of barre, center and diagonal work, and be able to execute these with grace and precision. The student needs to know the basics but must be familiar with more intricate steps. Students at this level will be polishing their technique. They will also learn how to execute steps more efficiently in order to learn intricate combinations. This level is designed to build endurance and push the envelope of training. Students at this level need little to no explanation of terms or execution. The dancer will develop more of what they have already achieved. This class is required 2x a week.

Jazz: Jazz combines many styles and techniques from ethnic and contemporary dance to ballet. Rhythm, upon which all dance forms depend, is particularly integral to jazz dance. The first half of class consists of exercises to stretch and tone muscles and develop support for proper stress-free alignment of the skeletal structure. Using jazz, soul, R&B, ethnic and pop music, jazz classes are a great work-out and a fun way to release tension while attaining a body awareness that can be applied to everyday activities.

Hip Hop: Students will gain a valuable understanding and appreciation of the improvisational nature of this dance form while learning basic movements and terminology. Throughout the session, the class will examine different manifestations of this dance form -- breaking, popping and locking, house, and fusion -- while equipping students with the fundamentals of each style. This class will break down steps and technique and also emphasize bringing style and personality to the movement. Hip Hop is a non-traditional dance style that will encourage students to step outside of the box and dance big. A high-energy class that uses the latest sounds in rap, R&B and pop music together with movements influenced by some of today’s best choreographers. Hip hop encompasses movement that has elements of poppin', locking, and breaking as well as freestyle movement to give students the opportunity to develop their own sense of style. Hip hop is urban, it’s street, it’s diverse and forever changing. JDA is very careful to teach only age appropriate and non-suggestive moves.

Lyrical: The fusion of ballet and jazz technique. Expression form the inner emotion is a primary factor in choreographing and interpreting this art form. Lyrical dance interprets music or words, showing the audience the emotion of the particular piece.

Tumbling: Teaches basic tumbling concepts such as forward rolls, back bends, cartwheels, back walk-overs, etc. and focuses on building strength and flexibility to prepare students for more advanced techniques.

Tumbling Tots: The fun way of getting kids excited about exercise! Classes include movement, choreographed dance, motivational music, tumbling, jumping and exercise. Children will increase flexibility, balance, rhythm, self esteem, and confidence. It is our goal to see that each child experiences feelings of success during each class leading to a life-long love of being active and fit.

Superstars: Musical theatre class focusing on dance, voice and acting with an emphasis on a confident, outward expression of personality and attitude.

Cheernastics: Cheerleading and gymnastics basic skills to advanced basic skills. Instruction will consist of gymnastics and cheerleading motions and skilled technique combined with rhythmic movements to music.
